What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

I had to look that one up. "Garam masala" is now in my lexicon, lol.
I'm currently preparing an Indian Festival (2 days) at a local golf club.
We were cooking some pork the other day and the cooks said: " It's sort of missing something"
2 tsps of garam masala later, they exclaimed "WOW!!"
It's now known as magic powder....

Nice idea. :okay:
He said in Uganda they call the greens "weeks worth" or something similar since that's how they bulk the food volume with a cheap product. badjak might be more familiar. Anyhow, in the South they're typically boiled to death and you add hot sauce. Garam masala and butter is a nice change and only cook until wilted. 👍

Yes, it was an instant thing and after I've managed to eat a half pound I'll make my own... 😎
I'm not known for throwing things away, but we didn't even manage to use a small jar of shop bought. That's in the compost heap and recycling and we've used it everyday since i made our own again.

I've known no other so this will work. It's actually quite tasty but that's a singular view. 🤷‍♂️

Fair enough.

We're just eyeing up a recipe in an American vegetarian soups book i bought back in 1994 that calls for it. I genuinely think I'd have to go back to living at home to remember a time in my life when I didn't have it around.

I have a standard spice jar of it, bought at the fancy gourmet shop, probably in 2005 or so. I think I’ve used it twice.

I think i may have an unopened packet of marjoram in my cupboard. I mostly use fresh herbs. That's a close to something not being used as you'll get with new, except for the new (replacement) containers I bought yesterday.

I make a lot of stuff that calls for marjoram, but I never have any. I always mean to put it on my list, but I forget. I usually sub in oregano.

I'm trying to think....
Uganda is very very fertile. Everything grows. The bamboo stakes on my beans, even a treated gumpole (only 1 luckily)
All kind of leaf vegetables were used, incl sweet potato & pumpkin leaves.
Matoke was used a lot to fill out a meal, but thats not a leaf, it's a green banana.
Meals would come with matoke or posho.
Posho is known all over sub saharan Africa, goes by different names (mielie meal, sadza, nshima, umgali etc)
So, back to question: I figure any type of leafy veg.....

I’m putting this here since it involves purchasing groceries.

I live and die by Kroger’s shopping app. My main list is there, my digital coupons, and unlike most things in life, it works seamlessly between functions and is actually pleasant to use.

Until now. They’ve redesigned it, and I swear, it’s as if they’ve purposely set out to make things next to impossible to do.

--- snip --

I’ve already complained. I hope they get this crap fixed because right now, it’s barely usable.
Welcome to ai. And it has been done purposely. It's happened in a lot of apps websites and platforms (almost all imo) - many becoming almost unusable as said. Fixing what ain't broken. 🤐 I complain constantly until I can't be bothered to waste the effort on deaf ears. Nightmare.
