What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

Barriehie what was funny is that the Asian Market that we go to (the same chain store that I went to when we lived in SO.AZ), barely any worker-bees speak English.
Our cashier was chitter-chattering away with all of the customers in front of us, I think it was Vietnamese, then I come up on the line and she says to me in perfect English, "OH! I just love this fish cake!"
You're still lucky ..
At the Chinese shops here most Chinese don't speak English.
The staff does, but they don't know the produce, or what it is used for.
And the label is mostly Chinese as well.
I've bought a fair bit of surprising stuff :)

Woo hoo!!! My Korean soy sauce arrived. 😋 View attachment 136341
I'm also waiting on a delivery of Korean "goodies". It seems that sempio are the only make to actually make unseasoned vegan Doenjang, Ssamjang and something called Yondu which i added on, along with a few other bits I didn't need yet (gochujang...) but will use, just needed to get to the free p&p

The only fish free version of Doenjang my OH could find was a seasoned one which we're finding we need to use double the amount of. We're hoping this new brand will be a bit better.

Curiously though we both prefer kikkoman Tamari sauce over any other brand of soy sauce we've tried.

There is quite a lot of sugar syrup in the Sempio Korean soy sauce. Plus, curiously, liquorice.

I've finally found my nuts!

Here in the UK Brazil Nuts have import restrictions on them so they have to be washed/cleaned before being allowed in (which puts the price up) so most supermarkets dont have them in their shells but I have managed to find some now so Christmas is no longer ruined! 🤣😎

I remember those Brazil nuts.
Those were tough nuts to crack.
Not with the nutcrackers I have that are from the 1970's I got from eBay!! They have a ratchet on them so they are very good at cracking nuts and removing fingers which is why I guess you cannot buy them new any more!!

Yes, that ratched cracker looks heavy duty.
Literally, in the wrong hands it's dangerous! The most difficult nuts to crack I find are the almonds - in the past I've had to smash them open with hammer (that makes a right mess though) but these nut crackers open them with ease! 😎

Having access to multinational grocery stores in Las Vegas and with a Korean wife I became quite fond of Korean cuisine. A block down the street were the Thai and Vietnamese grocers of which I couldn't read a thing! I spent a lot of time with Google in those... 😁

Stopped by Starbucks for a (free) cup of coffee, noticed they have their Christmas coffees out, so I bought a bag of their whole bean light roast Christmas coffee.
