What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

Literally, in the wrong hands it's dangerous! The most difficult nuts to crack I find are the almonds - in the past I've had to smash them open with hammer (that makes a right mess though) but these nut crackers open them with ease! 😎
Have you tried macademia nuts?
They are as bad as almonds.
We used to take almonds back to the garage where my dad had a vice and crack them there!
Later on we had a nut cracker like the one on the left in your picture. I wonder where that one has gone to...

I found an asian supermarket today.... it was like being a kid let loose in a candy store!
Irresistible, aren't they?
Until you arrive home 4 hours later, $500 lighter, and wonder what on earth you're going to make with dried chrysanthemum leaves and 2 kgs of Szechuan flowering cabbage...

We have to drive very far to get to any real Asian supermarkets so vicariously sharing your excitement! 😅

yeah - this is about 85 km away (+52 miles), so not exactly close. But in Australian standards, it is next door!

I was surprised when the total bill only came to AU$88 which is about GBP44 or US$55. It will have cost 25% of that in fuel alone if I had not had a hospital appointment in the area

While out running errands this afternoon, I swung through a local butcher shop to see what might interest me. I just mentioned in another thread that I really should start buying brisket instead of chuck roast due to cost, but one chuck roast that I spotted had such fantastic marbling that it stood out in the case among all the others and I couldn't resist, lol. It's now vac-sealed and in the freezer. I also picked up a small chunk of smoked Lebanon Sweet Balogna to snack on.

That chuck roast does look good.

We love Lebanon bologna here, I almost always have some, but I do prefer the regular to the sweet…though I wouldn’t turn down either one.

US speciality?
Bingo, named after Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. It’s important to get the pronunciation right - it’s not LEB-a-non, like the Middle Eastern country, it’s LEB-nin, just two syllables, and that last one barely makes it out.

ETA: here’s me eating a Lebanon bologna sandwich a couple of years ago:
