What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

A great umami flavour laced with malt vinegar - made from whole young green walnuts. You can make your own if you have a walnut tree or can gather them wild: Pickled Walnuts Recipe - How to Make Pickled Walnuts | Hank Shaw

Hey, so these walnuts are usually falling off the tree around Thanksgiving. Do you think they're still green enough to harvest and pickle? The limbs are weighted enough they're getting easier to get.

(Without ramming my truck into it like msmofet said... 😱)

Avocado and leek stuffed cantaloupe??? Is that Hawaiian??? 😱
The Avo is for Taco Tuesday, I'm going to make Grilled Cod Tacos with all of the accompaniments.
Leeks for the Challenge, never had them before, nor cooked with them so ...
The Cantaloupe will be diced and then each chunk wrapped in Prosciutto for DH's lunch/afternoon snack plate.

I knew you had a plan! Leeks are pretty straightforward. Don't forget the EPWR... 🤫

Just a funny story:

When DH & I first moved to "The Mainland" after retiring, I was hunting high and low for a Farmers Market to get fresh produce.
I looked on the internet for "farmers markets" and Sprouts was the first thing that came up.
I Google Mapped it, found it and it's like a grocery store... love the place!
I've been shopping there for almost all of our fresh produce there ever since.

The first few times I visited family in Phoenix and a friend in So California, I found Sprouts. Avocados were consistently 3/$1 or even 4/$1. I was hooked! Wish we had one here.

I forgot to post my shopping of the day before yesterday. Wasn't very exciting stuff though as it was Monday and the shop had not yet been re-stocked after the weekend
No dog bones or chicken feet for my boys, so a big bag of chicken pieces for all of us to share
Jasmine rice was finally back on the shelves. Bought 2 x 2.5 kg bags
2 bottles red wine (and I haven't opened them yet :) )
Sugar
Marmelade
Garlic
Eggs
Loaf of bread. Bag says whole wheat, but to me it closer resembles white bread than anything brown or wholewheat)
No leeks, nothing available

Yesterday I got 5 lbs. of jasmine rice, 10 lbs of flour, and some green onions for garnish. I'm making the bread for Pippi's groomer girls hence all the flour. Still zeroing in on what weight batch of dough works. I made some rolls yesterday that worked out to 130 grams each and were a nice size.

Figuring it backwards from the hydration I was using each roll is 78 grams of flour and 52 grams of water. Yeast and salt are negligible so I scale that up to X 6 for my batch. 👍
