What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

This was part of today's shop. Just the fresh stuff. Less than normal but we're out a couple of times this week.

The house smells amazing at the moment.

Whilst I've been studying hard, we ran out of garam masala, so my OH bought some. We've tried several times to "like" it but failed. Today it went into the bin and i made some of our own. (It had fennel and caraway seeds in it.) 🤷‍♀️

Mine has mace and star anise, plus black cardamom in it.

a long lost friend and I have been reintroduced.
My spice shelf (a tiny percentage is dried herbs (middle left half shelf only). A few larger items have to go elsewhere and I've now got 4 items which need replacing, but i go to the health food shop tomorrow.

We'll have eaten all of that garam masala before Christmas.

Morning Glory mentioned a fava bean stew recipe, foul-mudammas, in another thread and mentioned it was garlicky. That was enough for me so off to Morelo's Market! I entered haba pelada in my search engine and the initial pictures weren't beans... These should be peeled fava beans. I hope they're good at $4.99/lb.

Can't wait to see your critique ??

Russ

Here you go. These are the loin chops; simply air-fried medium rare with a bit of S&P. It was amazing: super tender (well most lamb is tender, lol) but this had just enough chew to make it satisfying for the jaw, but soft and succulent enough that you could tell it had some pedigree. What struck me the most was the tastiness of the fat - savoury in itself without feeling oily.

Gonna get some more.

These are for the advent calendar. Good to see that they now come in larger boxes. I didn't look at the price. They are divine. My waistline is saved by the price tag!
(And yes that's what I wrote for the review!)

No mace though, so still hunting for that.

I also picked up 1 cheese (the one on the left)

And whilst I was chatting to the owner who was in the till, he sent the younger girl (teenager) to go and get the other cheese from the fridge.

One of his fridges has broken and because I'd bought one dairy free cheese, he have me the other free. It's A$2=£1!

The 'rosie' is interesting because it claims to be vegan goat's cheese rather than just cheese.

The Fallow of London restaurant guys on Youtube turned me on to star anise, and it's now my secret ingredient in beef stock. It's not something I would have thought of, but its unique flavor makes it pop.
