What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

Bison are farmed (as they almost extincted the wild ones) Farmed bison is really tasty but fattier than wild game.

Never had wild buffalo, but have had other wild game from that way. Elk is very similar. Would make good biltong! 😊
I forgot about the biltong!
Had that...
And also kudu biltong, ostrich biltong and the much more common beef biltong

They are farmed but most likely not in a small confined area like some cows are raised.

I know in South East Asia they don’t eat them, they are too tough. They are used to farm rice.
Indonesia is part of SE Asia, but different in some ways as they eat a lot of stews.
Rendang was originally made from buffalo meat.
Besides, even though most water buffalo are used as working animals, they will be eaten when they get too old. They are not left to perish.

Either forgetting the TP put you in a bad mood or thats the fly spray!😅
Doom is the brand name for our insect killer spray (cockroaches, mozzies, ants etc).

Never heard of water Buffalo meat ever. Some parts of Asia are more plentiful of other protein(like fish) than others, why eat something so tough.
But I don’t claim to know every country in Asia. I would assume the Mongolian people would eat them.
But some fruit/vegetable that people in Asia eat and I never heard of them until I watch their youtube.

Listeria is killed by heat. It's mainly an issue from eating uncooked or stored fresh food. Put it in a cooked dish. Post pasteurisation.
In any case one of the producers is the Neals Yard guy. I'm sure they test all the milk before and after making the cheese. Their reputation depends on it.
Yer appreciate all that but basically I don’t want to cook it.
I eat Stilton just once a year due to the terrible GI issues it causes for all of us.

So that one occasion is sacred and not to be wasted on cooked cheese. It’s to be savoured in its raw state with quince jam and a glass of wine.
If I made something containing Stilton no-one would want to eat it, would be a waste of my time and a waste of the other ingredients.

Nice idea though.

Water buffalo's are those working buffs
You won't get a cape buffalo doing the same.
Almost similar the the elephants. The Asian elephantis quite often used to work, but don't try the same with our African elephant :)
Thanks for the info, I didn’t know they are so different. I never heard of elephant meat either.

The locals will est elephant, but it is not a common meat.
I put the comparison out as behavioural, not meat wise.
I have had buffalo, crocodile, hippo, warthog, bush pig and most "deer" species, but I do not think I have had elephant
Neither would I go looking for it....

I think it’s not energy efficient to cook tough meat. Until I discovered a crockpot by accident(office Christmas party gift exchange) I stay away from cooking meat that’s not efficient use of my time and my gas stove. It turns out more expensive overall.

It’s very difficult to kill and elephant I can’t think for a minute there’s a humane way to do it.
I’ve always thought that if you eat meat then you shouldn’t be fussy because no animal would ever volunteer to die for your plate but now I sit here reading that I realise I couldn’t eat elephant.
They’re too intelligent, they have self awareness and display empathy. I find those hurdles a bit much.
