Groan... main issue is my lower back (I've had issues before). This time its due to walking with the frame changing posture and adding pressure to the lower spine. The leg itself is not so painful. The back is really painful. I can't take heavy duty painkillers as the make me too sleepy and I can't then be vigilant to make sure Steve my partner is safe. So its just paracetamol...
Oh dear that's tough, I feel for you! Maybe you can talk to a pain specialist? They might find something for you that doesn't make you sleepy.

Getting to see a pain specialist in the UK before covid was hard work (I know from experience) I doubt it is feasible now, especially given the speed at which MG would need it (before she's off the frame and out of the boot).

If a "frame" in the UK is like a "walker" in the US, you can get them in "stand-up" versions that don't force you to stoop over.

Not in the NHS you won't. You'd have to buy it privately.

Yeah, it's the same here. But, they aren't outrageously expensive -- around 200 bucks.

My parents paid for their walkers, and my dad's wheelchair, so they would have something better than what Medicare (government health care for the elderly) would pay for. I guess we are just used to that in the US.

Well our 'socialized' system doesn't cover those either, unless you're on the absolute minimum wage which is social assistance (benefits). And we pay a monthly government mandated insurance fee of currently 180 euros a head, plus a yearly 'own risk' fee of 385 euro's a head. So while our healthcare is good and accesible for most people , it's not free either. We also pay for prescriptions and things like glasses.

DH just bought my Mom this as an early Valentine's gift at our local pharmacy

It was only $99.99 usd AND it's blue, Mom's favorite color!
He said that it would take "an act of congress to try to get something through Medicare. let's get it for her!"
AHHHH! Have I said what a great guy my husband is lately?

I need to 'lean' slightly to take weight off he injured leg so being totally upright doesn't work. I think its simply the pressure on the spine due to depending on my right leg and the slight leaning. I have a hospital appointment soon so will discuss it. Meanwhile, it would be nice to get to wash my hair after four weeks...

That's $195 per month, plus $415 per year in USD. That is dirt cheap compared to our private insurance system rates. Even after paying for my insurance, my deductible and maximum out of pocket adds up to $10,000 per year.

Couldn't your daughter help you with a basin/kitchen sink hair wash?
An entire month of NOT washing my hair would send me over the edge!
Or what about that "helper" that comes in to help?
I tell ya girlie, if I lived down the street, I'd take ya to the salon for the full monty!!! You deserve it, I'd say.
