1 lb finely minced beef
4 ozs finely chopped onions
4 ozs finely grated carrot
1 egg
garlic (optional)
black pepper to taste
salt*
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Shape the burgers (I use a burger press), then put them in the fridge for about half an hour to firm up before cooking them.
* I don't add salt as I don't normally use it in cooking. I find the black pepper a suitable substitute.
