Anyone planning on doing any Easter-themed cooking/eating/drinking this year, or observing any family/personal traditions?

I’ve not thought much about it yet, but I’m sure we’ll do something with a ham, and if there’s ham, then there’ll be some au gratin/scalloped potatoes about as well. Deviled eggs too, of course. And chocolates…must have chocolates.

I also imagine we’ll be having an Easter-inspired afternoon tea or, if it’s warm enough, picnic somewhere, and maybe some kind of fun cocktail that has something…anything…to do with egg-distributing rabbits.

No church or anything like that for us, though. We see Easter as a food-and-drink holiday, mainly (like St. Pat’s Day…and St. Valentine’s Day…and New Year’s Day…).

We’ve already got the Easter tree up:

It’s hard to see in the photo, but those are pastel lights, along with some happy painted Easter eggs, and the most festive bit of all…Peter Cottontail’s decapitated noggin adorning the top, as a warning to all rabbits exactly what happens to bad little bunnies who trample my herb garden with their thumpy big feet!

Now that my Mother has her own apartment in a Senior Living Community, I don't think that I'll be doing anything myself for Easter.
What I have done is given a heads-up to Mom that as soon as they put out the menu for Easter Lunch in one the dining rooms at her place, let's make a reservation for the three of us. This way, no fuss, no muss.
The chef at her place puts out real nice spreads for all the holidays.
When DH & I were having to deal with his heart issues and going back and forth down into "The Valley", Mom took it upon herself to go with her new friends to the festivities.
Now, she likes that so much, she goes to all of them.
For St Paty's Day they served two different cocktails-Midori Sour and Green Guinness.
Some sort of appetizer, I can't recall what.; a salad.
The usual Corned Beef, Cabbage, Potatoes, Carrots.
Then dessert was Vanilla and Chocolate Cupcakes that were decorated for the holiday.

Mom's cognitive skills are fair on a good day, so I can only guess that it's all plated and the waitstaff simply distributes them to each dinner.

Our friend cheryl has a mum in her 80s at an care facility. She owns the unit and cheryl oversees everything. She has to ring her to fit in to see her.
Shes busy at their social things everyday.
She loves it.

My sister made a mistake in planning six months ago, and she leaves on her Spring cruise on Easter Sunday (flight to Miami). My mom is not happy. I need to be in Houston for the following weekend, so I can take care of my dad's laundry. I can't come for Easter and stay ten days. My mom is doubly unhappy, now.

The Village has a big Easter dinner, but a lot of guests are there, and my mom doesn't like crowded spaces (and the loud conversations associated).

I've seen decorated trees up for Christmas, but for Easter?! This something new, or has it been out for a while now?!!

Not planned much because I didn't know how I would feel, and still don't though I've noticed some improvements since taking my new meds so I am hopeful. Either way, second easter day (there's always two here, just like Christmas) we're booked for a high tea themed brunch so I am looking forward to that.

Otherwise I'm thinking of just doing a regular sunday breakfast on the first day of easter, which contains eggs, orange juice, bake off bread and cold cuts plus jam and cheese for us. And as is traditional with Easter for Dutch people, also a stollen bread.

It’s unusual but not unheard of. There are some people who leave a tree up all year and decorate it differently for various holidays during the year.

This is our first year doing it, and we’ve decorated it for Valentine’s, St. Pat’s, and now Easter. Memorial Day is next, not sure how I’ll do that one.

I thought MrsT would grow tired of it after a month or two, but the other day, she said, “You know…I really like having that up!” - I reckon it’s here to stay!
