Going vegetarian in 2026

How's the transition going Windigo !

You may already have found a vegg fish sauce but this might be useful - found while looking for something else 🙂

And this is fun - I've done it a few of times with organic banana peels tweaking the flavourings to taste

That's one to try out. Certainly cheaper than the real thing!

You know the monks they are vegetarian, they don’t eat fish sauce, only soy sauce. Fish sauce enhances meat.
I believe my mom said they also avoid garlic and onions, these stuff can get them too excited and further away from their goal of celibacy.

No onions or garlic? Which monks are those? 🧄🧅

I'm not sure about Buddhism, but I do know that strict Hindus avoid onions and garlic. That's why they use hing/asafoetida. Same reason, different religion.
Me? I'll stick with oysters.

I think one religion maybe related to the other. My friend Sashi taught me to use hing/asafoetida, I had a jar once but I threw it away, I can’t remember which recipe even.

How's it going?

Well, OK at the moment. I haven't bought any new meat and have been able to think around it. Have just noticed that currently my energy level is quite low and finding new recipes to make has been at the bottom of my priority list so I have just used staple recipes or just bought a vegetarian pizza or something. I'm going through some physical changes and am busier than I've ever been before and that's making this a little more difficult to ease into than I expected. But I'm sure I'll get there in time.

Well, as is obvious from my other posts, this didn't work out for me. Unfortunately the same problems I had 8 years ago that stopped me eating plant based then, still bother me now.
Crohns disease is just ruthless sometimes. I have to accept defeat here unfortunately. It is what it is. Still won't eat meat every day, but it's not going to work out for me to do more than I already did.
