How is the corona virus affecting you?

I'm masking again in hospital. It's not required but I can't have COVID on top of my other lung issues.
I went back to masking several days ago. The latest strain is going nuts, every county around us is back in the high/danger zone, which means we’ll be there soon enough.

Doc’s offices are hit-or-miss, depends on the practice, but hospitals still require it.

I never stopped wearing a mask in public. No restaurant food except carryout as a result. Our hospital and doctors offices never stopped requiring them.

I´ve had 3 vaccinations. Next week, I´m going for the 4th. I got Covid in February; fortunately , nothing even slightly serious.
So here comes a very personal opinion, which I don´t expect anyone to share.
Covid has mutated into yet another version of "Flu". Spanish flu; HongKong flu; Dengue Fever; SARS; etc. It´s here to stay and, just like the "flu" we had when we were kids. Whether we like it or not, there´s a high possibility that, at one stage or another, we will get infected, regardless of whether we wear masks, gloves, full HAZMAT suits, avoid all social contact, isolate ourselves on an uninhabited island, whatever.
It´s been over two years since this appalling thing ruined our lives, kept us locked up at home without any socialisation, kept us away from meeting friends and put many people into panic (dare I say, hysteria) mode.
I´ve had enough, so I´m not going to wear a mask (unless obliged to do so) or avoid social contact, and if I get the damn thing again, so be it. I wasn´t born to be a hermit and have no intention of being one, because whether we like it or not, life goes on, Covid or no Covid.

President Joe Biden was exposed to covid. He was in quarentine for 5 days. He didn't get sick at all. He was tested twice & was proved to be negative. He went about his normal duties. :whistling:

I wear a mask not only to protect myself, but mainly I wear it to protect other people. If I get covid, I might not have any symptoms at all because I have been double vaxxed and double boosted, but I can still spread it without symptoms or knowing that I have it. My husband's mother is immunocompromised and if she were to get it with her incurable lung condition (called MAC), it could cause her severe illness because she is unable to build up antibodies against it. She would undoubtedly be hospitalized or could even die from it. I would never forgive myself if I hurt her in any way. So while I understand your frustration and I actually hate wearing the damned mask, I put it on everytime I go into public. It's also possible that I could give it to someone else in a store or public setting who might actually be wearing a mask but with my wearing one too, I am less likely to spread it to others, so even though I would never know if I got that person sick, it doesn't matter. I am doing the best I can do avoid spreading it. Covid may be here to stay, but so is the damned mask on my face. Not telling you how to go about your daily life, just telling you my view on it.

Yeah he did get sick, but he had mild symptoms and was given Paxlovid so it cleared up pretty quickly.

President Biden tests positive for Covid-19, has mild symptoms

"The president’s symptoms include a dry cough, runny nose and fatigue, White House physician Kevin O’Connor said in a memorandum. Those symptoms began Wednesday evening, O’Connor said."

Just one thing... earlier versions of Covid-19 were more deadly than what is going around now. My 90YO father got through Omicron without much discomfort, let alone needing hospitalization. He is vaxxed and boosted, which helped.

I do agree that we will probably need annual vaccinations, as we do with the flu. Perhaps they will merge the two, I don't know.

The immune escape that is now happening is making it harder to support more vaccinations going forward, but it is a money maker no doubt. If the pharma companies actually bothered to make a more current vaccine for omincron you know with that 95% effectiveness instead of the mid 40's that it is now going into the teens within weeks might makes sense considering originally they called for a 50% minimum. It would be nice if someone in this Country mentioned natural immunity, B and T cells and their roll in the immune system because after those antibodies disappear after a month from vaccination those are what make new antibodies and keep us safe, crazy right it almost sounds like our immune system works without us knowing anything about it. Cheers

One year ago, the situation in Berlin was quite chaotic, in terms of vaccine. There were people, who barely knew how to inject the vaccine, with plenty of shots, giving people free vaccines on the streets, without any verification on their medical profile. Basically, you could get 5 vaccines a week.

Well finally they have started talking about a 4th booster, it will be given in october to the most vulnerable groups (that includes me). They have started talking, the rest of the world already has this done ages ago!

Not here in the UK for folk like me. I'm 70 and I've had 3 vaccines so far (last in mid December) and the fourth is possibly going to happen in Autumn. But certainly, being in a vulnerable group, in the UK you would have had a fourth by now.

We’ve had our fourth, and they’re talking about having a revamped one for the latest variant available here in just a couple of months (for anyone over 50)!

My sister, the hospital RN, told me to hold off because a new vaccine that works better on Omicron variants is not that far away.
