• I’ve added a casual chat room to CookingBites as a place for off-topic banter, light conversation, and short-lived chit-chat that doesn’t belong in forum threads. The chat room is informal and lightly-to-not moderated, with messages being temporary, so it’s ideal for friendly back-and-forth that would otherwise derail discussions. Site rules still apply, but there’s no reporting system or expectation of post-by-post moderation - if something becomes uncomfortable, the right response is to step away. If a topic has substance or lasting value, it still belongs in the forums; everything else can head to chat.

The CookingBites recipe challenge: mayonnaise

Made some salad dressing tonight with mayonnaise, so I thought I’d post it:

So I confess. I didn't make the batter thin enough, hence the domed top (out of practice) and I didn't have cup/fairy cake papers either. But these are lovely and light and fully fairy free, egg free and if predictive text allows dairy free as well!

Carrot & Raisin Salad

We use to have this dish alot as part of our school-provided lunches... I hated the Raisins in it!
But ya know what?
I like it now!
I haven't had this salad in many, many a moon.
I shared some with Mister Next Door Neighbor and he said the exact same thing!
I'll make this again, for sure!

I took the easy way out, and used bagged Carrot Match Sticks, so simple.
I also didn't put in too many Raisins, of course a recipe is simply someone else's idea, you take it and make it your own.
I want to try this next time with dried Cranberries 💡
