Weekly Menu (2025)

I have to go shopping first, but from the weekly ad

Monday - get some ready made food for my daughter and I, for my husband he will have turkey soup, bread with pate

Tuesday - grilled chicken balsamic vinegar with Mediterranean salad, red cabbage, chickpeas, onions, avocado

Wednesday - roasted leg of lamb, haven’t been doing this for years, lamb meat seems to be on sale, served with moussaka, a dish my husband and I had in Crete, it’s delicious. Eggplants are on sale for 39c

Thursday - sometime of middle eastern wrap with some slices of the lamb, red onions, etc..I need to buy the wrap, my daughter will not eat, she’s going out the whole day

Friday - Local pizza with garden salad, shredded carrots and cucumbers

Saturday - shrimp quesadilla using Italian flat bread, and not tortillas

Sunday - some kind of lamb pie with onions, carrots, and peas, crust on top only, nothing on the bottom, minimizing carbs
I’ll be over Wednesday 😊

Just discovered this thread - still finding the nooks and crannies of this forum - perhaps I need a more logical approach 😅

I've always cooked seasonally (or as seasonally possible) and by availability, don't menu plan as such as I shop by what looks good and plentiful or desirable, what I have on hand, what and go from there. Perhaps a weekly menu of sorts would be good idea 😅

I check online a lot to see what's around, make shopping lists, shopping trips and order a fair bit online one way and another as we are far from the regular shopping city, which while ok, is not a hub of food diversity.

How do people like to plan their menus, if they do?

Since the inflation surge, I plan my menu on what’s on the weekly ad. This is my way of fighting against inflation.
For example, Starbucks coffee on sale for $6.99 but if you don’t wait for sale, it could be $12.99-$14.99. Tillamook ice cream is normally $6.99 but when it goes on sale it’s $3.49.
However when I get to the supermarket if things don’t look good, i just don’t buy the sale item.

We just had that sale here. I don’t particularly like or dislike Starbucks coffee, but at $6.99, it was nearly a buck-and-a-half cheaper than Aldi’s whole bean coffee, and Starbucks is available in a light roast (blonde), which we both prefer, so I snagged five bags of that.

There’s usually a limit here, maybe 4 bags at most. But my husband also drinks Peets coffee. I don't drink coffee, try to keep by BP down.
I only shop within my city, Aldi is further away. We don't want to drive around looking for deals either. California gas is very expensive, and that’s the reason.

That why we do Sam's for real basics like coffee etc. We drink a lot of coffee for example so it makes sense. Eggs, dairy, and certain fruit and veg items, some meat.

I actually somewhat plan meals around my fridge and freezer stocks, as well a sometimes just having a yen for something if we have all the ingredients in.

Same re Starzbucks. Tho I do like their Sumatra dark roast a lot. Sams does Starbucks in 40oz bags but it's usually quite a bit more expensive than others - I pay for quality but won't pay for a brand label especially as there are other brands that use the same coffee and roast companies.
 
I didn’t get the leg of lamb but I got the shoulder of the lamb, i think it’s cheaper and quicker to cook, so I’m going to try that tomorrow.
I also forgot to get avocado but I did get some type of squash, maybe I will substitute that for avocado with my red cabbage salad.
