What’s going on in your garden (2025)?

Then, out of the blue last week, an Amaryllis lily poked its head above the ground.This one was just two flat, green leaves for most of the year. Suddenly, there are 6 there. A really beautiful flower, native to South America.

the 3rd and 4th are probably dendrobium, but I can't for the life of me find their proper names. Anyway, they flower once a year, for about 10 days, and then the babies appear, attached to the stalks. I've got hundreds of them.

They sure have! I'm growing the Sugar Baby variety which are really sweet and supposed to be refrigerator/personal size at around 6 to 8 lbs. Last year ended up with around 320 lbs. and gave them all away since they didn't fit in the fridge...

Mine averaged 15 lbs.

It'd probably be wasted here. The temperatures have gone bonkers: last week it was sort of 25-27C, and all of a sudden, it's 32C at 12 o 'clock. I water the plants at 8am, and by 10.30, all the water has evaporated. Add to that, we haven't had a drop of rain since January.

Ground temps don't fluctuate nearly as much as air. A thermometer 5 cm in the ground and averaged between AM and PM will get you your numbers. There's always the right way, the wrong way, and another way.
