What did you cook or eat today (August 2025)?

Krystal’s tries hard to be like White Castle. As with both. People either love them or hate them.
I’m a sucker for television shows that tell the stories of the beginnings of good companies. The History Channel has an entire series about it. Each episode is a different company. I highly recommend it. Wife wouldn’t watch it with me. So if your spouse has different interests than you on programming like that, be prepared to watch alone. I may rewatch the entire series.

Heading out to go buy meat. Auburn University has a meat lab where they slaughter and process animals. Good fresh meat and cheap. It about 55 minutes away. So we will have some type of meat from there for dinner.

Because we have a fast food place called White Castle. I think they started the slider thing many years ago.

“In 1921, it all started out so innocently. A five-cent small hamburger. A Castle-shaped restaurant. And nothing like it before, or since.”
We used to go to the ones in NOLA, New Orleans LA, eons ago.

I grew up in the south (Florida) and we had Krystal.
I used to get the loaded tater tots for lunch. That carb bomb could preclude eating for a day. I think there's something in the chili that makes it turn to gas... (Still good though!)

I hadn’t thought of that. I’m don’t eat very much for lunch. But one of these days if I’m hungry I will go.
Some restaurants have late lunch/early dinner specials. I am not sure about Longhorn, but it's worth looking into. There is also the option of takeout where you pick up the food at the restaurant yourself (so your wife doesn't freak out). You can get a steak rare with sides, sear the steak further to your preference, and split the steak and sides. You could probably get a 10 ounce ribeye for about $25?

Edited to show the ribeye available at those restaurants in my area.

I haven't eaten at Krystal in 45 years so no idea about that.
