What did you cook or eat today? (October 2025)

Yes we have gyros but I’ve noticed our use of the word can be different (although similar) so I wondered what gyro meat was because thats not something you can purchase raw here.
Right, I'd assume it's cooked if you can find it, though I've never seen it sold alone. I've only ever bought a pre-made sandwich or made the meat myself. Given your love of sandwich meat, I've a feeling you'll be making your own.

What we purchased isn't raw. It's Halal and just needs to be warmed. It was in the freezer in the meat department of a huge butcher type market.

We love our homemade recipe, but, since Craig had his medical issue in 2020, he rarely BBQs. As well, it's a good bit of work to put together and I'm just not into cooking that much anymore when I can get something that's good, even if it does cost a little more. The Halal stuff wasn't cheap, but that's all they had, and still cheaper than going out.

Yes and I usually make two fat thick logs of the stuff every visit to Spain. I think I just assumed it was some type of meat mix with meat extraction and blending already completed for you and ready to cook

Was a Mediterranean I think it was restaurant in 'Vegas had these large vertical "spikes" that rotated next to an electric element and when you ordered gryo whatever that's what they cut the meat off of. It was layers of slices with seasonings that was probably 2’ high. Meat heaven...
We had a place like that in Southern AZ, it was divine!! Mom & I would go there for lunch probably twice a month...
No such thing here in NoAZ!!!
I did see one of those "meal kits" at one of the stores up here, can't `member off hand at the moment, but I don't know if I would buy it.
OH WAIT! Trader Joe's sells the Gyro Meat ... hmmm ... 🤔

Yes, and Mexican style al pastor, similar but different seasoning and spices of course. Or Lebanese shawarma? Don't Brazilians have something like that too?

Catching up...
1) Persimmons - called Kaki over here. There are apparently 4 types: the Japanese version, 2 others and the American version. The Japanese version (which I've never tried), can be cooked. The American version ( which I have tried) is just uncookable. It turns into wet cardboard, but is utterly delicious fresh.
2) Gyros. When I live in London in the 70s, we'd go up the Tottenham Court Rd after the pubs closed, for a gyro. There was a Cypriot restaurant called the Blue Dolphin ( how about that for memory? ) where you'd knock on the door, a drunken waiter would open, and if you were a group of 6 or more, they'd let you in. Gyros, hummus, tzatziki, some amazing sausages, and dancing until everyone was exhausted.

So today I made some more samosas and some gulab jamun, for a tasting dinner on Wednesday at a local golf club. Since they've both labour-intensive, I decided to make them right now. Give me more time for the proteins tomorrow or the day after
