What's up with rice porridge??? My rice cooker has a porridge button but I've never used it. I've giggled Congee and it's like rice cooked into mush???

After reading recipes here I went and bought a kaffir plant. I must make another paste. My kids love it.

You are lucky to have that! I wouldn't know it if I tripped over it but it's called for in a lot of recipes from the Thailand area and I get the sour of lime with the spicy and sweet. I used to, when I worked, keep a bottle of Tajin in my service van...

There is no fruit on the kaffir. My neighbour 2 doors down may have been active. She takes lemons from near my front door. (With my knowledge)

Barriehie Jook is the Cantonese name for Rice Porridge. I can't remember what language Congee comes from.
It's good for when you don't feel well, or the weather is crummy and we're coming up on all of the above... so I'll have some on hand.
In the past, I've always cooked my Jook on the stovetop, but I saw a FB thingy on IP Jook and had to try it, much, much, much easier!!

Our lemon tree in front of house. This one was dead with no lemons until we had the 7.1 earthquake. Then it came alive. In the mean time I bought another as this wasn't producing. Then voila 2 trees.

For DH: Cheese Ravs with Olive Oil, Garlic and Anchovy Fillets, oh a touch of freshly cracked Black Pepper.
On the side and not pictured is some homemade Bread from My Neighborhood Gal Pal, she dropped it off this morning, still warm... we've eaten half the loaf already
