What produce/ingredients did you buy or obtain today (2025)?

Ah thanks, thats nice of you. What is ‘all purpose seasoning’?
All purpose seasoning mix is great to use on meat and vegetables. I use it on just about everything savory.
I make my own blend. But you can buy All purpose seasoning in the grocery store or probably Amazon. Goya Adobo seasoning is a good one.

I can write up and post my recipe later when I’m on my laptop if you want it. Let me know.

Had a look, Ocado here sell quite a few types, they are called different things but essentially are an all purpose seasoning 👍

Genessee Oktoberfest:

Every city/region has their traditional “shit beer” brand (Hudepohl in Cincy, Grain Belt in Minnesota, Lone Star in Texas, etc) and in central NY State, it’s gotta be Genessee (along with Utica Club).

Their flagship beer is Genny Cream Ale, but like all these beer-for-the-masses brewers, they’ve branched out of late and have “premium” seasonals, so I had to have this when I saw it.

I like Genesee but haven't had one in 25 years probably.

There’s a story behind getting that:

We first saw it in an IGA in Old Forge (Gateway to the Adirondacks), but I didn’t buy it because I reasoned I’d just buy it (and drink it) once we got to Plattsburgh.

Genny is a central NY brew, so it hadn’t made it up to P’burgh yet, not due for another few weeks, so I figured I’d just get some back downstate when I stopped to pee or get gas.

The two places I stopped…plenty of Genny, but no Genny O’fest.

Made it to the hotel, found a Wegman’s nearby, ran out there, bought a few things, grabbed the beer, but the prick kindly cashier ringing my order wouldn’t sell me the beer without ID, which I’d left in the hotel, so I had to leave it. 😠

Scooted over to Wallyworld just over the road from the hotel, they had it, I had my ID…but they, like sensible people, didn’t card me.

Why are they asking you for ID?

Put in a food order for tomorrow. Looking forward to it because things having been the way they are I have done very little cooking over the last few weeks.
I’ve done a little bit but mostly whatever’s easiest for fuelling up. So I’ve decided to treat myself to a few new bits n bobs -

Pricey with mixed reviews but the good ones say it’s halfway between a melon and cucumber -

I’m late to the Kimchi party as I’ve never been a fan of sauerkraut but I’m willing to give it a try -

Haven’t tried the M&S version, hopefully it’s good enough I won’t be bothering to make my own 😂

Pretty much here in the US of A if you appear, under 40, the cashier must ID you to verify legal drinking age. It's typically a company policy and even if you know the customer and they're 90 if the camera footage shows not following policy you can be termed...

Wow that’s a bit much!
Here we have ‘Challenge 25’ so if you’re not sure is someone is over 18 (ie they don’t look 25) you can ask for ID.

My boys were asked twice when they were 16 on rugby club away games, which is probably one of the safest environments you can introduce young people to alcohol because there are lots of parents and adults about to step in or help out while the youngsters find their limits.

It all depends, really, and big box stores seem to be more apt to card me than mom-and-pop shops.

In Pennsylvania, at least the big grocery stores, actually scan the bar code on the back of my driver’s license to read in my info and release the purchase.

Here in Ohio, they generally just look at me, override the sale, and put in a fake birthday, like 01/01/1950, and send me on my way, though I’ve had a couple of jerks not sell me beer because I don’t typically have my ID on my person. One of the few times I (nearly) made a big grocery purchase at Walmart, I left it half scanned through, half in the cart, a good $200 worth of things, because the stupid cashier insisted on carding me, grey beard and all, and when I walked over to customer service to complain, the manager said, “Yeah, I obviously wouldn’t card you, but it’s up to the cashier,” so that was that. Letter of the law destroying spirit of the law, IMO.

Years and years ago, MrsT and I were working an Oktoberfest, and our job was to card anyone at the gate wanting to buy alcohol and give them a “It’s ok, I’m a grown-up” wristband, and the state police had insisted on 100% compliance, so we were expected to card 80 year-olds and the like, and we, being in possession of some 🤬 common sense, refused and so they took us off the wristband patrol.
