Tired of buying teriyaki sauce at the store and finding it lacking in flavor? This homemade teriyaki sauce is easy to make and delivers with that sweet and salty teriyaki taste to use as a marinade or ingredient in your favorite teriyaki-based Asian dishes. This simple recipe comes together in under 10 minutes. This teriyaki has a pronounced garlic taste, but if you don't love garlic, feel free to reduce the amount used by half.
Makes about 1.5 cups of teriyaki sauce that can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 10-14 days.
Ingredients
1/2 cup tarami or soy sauce
3 TBSP rice cooking wine
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 TBPS honey
2 tsp fresh ground ginger or ginger paste
2 tsp minced garlic
1tsp sesame seed oil
1/4 cup water with 3 tsp cornstarch, dissolved
Mix all of the ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring continuously. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes. Taste the sauce and adjust with additional brown sugar if needed, and cook for an additional 30 seconds if adding more brown sugar. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool. Pour into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
