What's going on in your garden (2024)?

I'm expecting jungle syndrome within the next week or so.
Usually, it's dry season from December to April, so no rain. Yesterday, it poured down all day long, so everything got soaked. That means the grass will have to be cut again very soon, the weeds removed, etc.

Lawns here have gone from fortnightly to 3 Weekley .

Can't wait for my pawpaws to come back in production

I had to call the Bee Man yesterday. He's a specialist bee-keeper who also removes unwanted bees' nests, and there's a huge one in the roof of the house next door. Normally it wouldn't be a problem, but every time we start the strimmer, the bees get agitated and start attacking. Yesterday morning there were thousands of bees on one part of the garden - as yet uncut - and it was just too risky to even try cutting the grass/weeds!

The 3 butternut squashes are growing fast

The courgettes are prolific and trying to take over what the potatoes and the raspberries haven't yet taken over...

The pears are ripening fast, so pear jam, pear butter and pear jelly are on the cards in the next few days. I may poach a few in the next few weeks and store them in the freezer... this bowl is just 2½kg of the 20kg already picked and the tree still looks laden.

Looks like I'm processing figs today!

This variety doesn't go particularly purple skinned, but they are exceptionally sweet none the less.

And the pear tree has handed over more of its crop.

There's about 10kg in that bucket. They're in the fridge to delay ripening. I'm still processing yesterday's pear butter. And with the figs needing immediate processing, the pears will have to wait.

A frost overnight made picking up fox poo so much easier.
A load of washing is on the line blowing in the breeze. Sunshine is sporadic and it is still a bit nippy but better than all the rain we have been having lately.

A heavy frost overnight but lovely now, went out for a walk earlier, a bit nippy but the sun is lovely and warm.
Itching to get outside in the back garden and get cracking, sadly with all the rain we have had lately everywhere is just mud.
