A melon is any of various plants of the family Cucurbitaceae with sweet edible, fleshy fruit. The word "melon" can refer to either the plant or specifically to the fruit. Botanically, a melon is a kind of berry, specifically a "pepo". The word melon derives from Latin melopepo, which is the latinization of the Greek μηλοπέπων (mēlopepōn), meaning "melon", itself a compound of μῆλον (mēlon), "apple, treefruit (of any kind)" and πέπων (pepōn), amongst others "a kind of gourd or melon". Many different cultivars have been produced, particularly of cantaloupes.

Pasta Salad with Melon, Pancetta and Ricota Salata
Salad with Scotch Bonnet chillies? Well, if you know anything about me you will know I'll eat chillies with (and in) everything - and salad is no exception. Scotch Bonnets have a delicious fruity flavour which works very well with the earthy gungo peas (or chickpeas). Sumac adds a citrus note...
I bought what I thought was a honeydew melon at the grocery store. It see now that it has no sticker on it that might identity it. I chose it first by the color, then the texture, then the sound of the seeds moving or not as a store employee once advised me. Upon cutting a piece to eat I see...

I've been struggling to come up with anything for the latest CookingBites recipe challenge tbh. And whilst looking around for something different to do with melons came across various soup recipes lots of which involved ham and scallops or crab meat, none of which I eat. I will have to confess...

Not *technically* for the Cooking Bites Recipe Contest, but I wanted to share this Japanese treat with you. It doesn't actually contain melon - it's called melon pan (melon bread) because it looks like a melon! The recipe contest just made me think of it, though!
It's quite popular here in...
Melon is the current ingredient for the The CookingBites Recipe Challenge. I've been thinking about savoury recipes for melon and came across a few recipes for pickled melon. There are, perhaps surprisingly, even more recipes for pickled watermelon rind - which might be fun to try sometime...
Ice cream comes in many flavours, but since I like most ice cream, it is hard to say which flavour I like best. I do like ice cream which is fruit-flavoured though. I have tasted cherry ice cream, mango ice cream and strawberry ice cream, to name a few. I don't think I have ever tasted a...
