The mayonnaise and sandwich debate

Do you dip in mustard or anything? Tomato soup? Anything?
Have to say the grilled cheese was picked up this side of the pond as it's a Thing here and Mr Z is partial, especially with tomato soup which is part of the Thing, so usually with that. Homemade as a rule. Justa like Heinz with white wine and other things 🙂

Dipped in mustard? 🤔

One of my daughters likes grilled cheese with tomato soup. I don't know how this happened. I didn't raise her like that. She's an adult now. I hope she's not grilling it with mayonnaise...

Blimey, go out shopping and there's an existential debate on grilled cheese butter vs mayo 😅😅

Me, I use neither: bread, cheese, bread, pan, low heat flip as needed. Bread toasts, cheese melts. End of 😅
When I could have dairy, it was 2 rounds of bread toasted (under a UK grill) on one side and buttered on the other just before the grated cheese was added to one untoasted side. when the cheese had meltted and started to brown, the second slice was added and the whole thing served as a toasted chese sandwhich.

the butter was optional by the way - my preference was without.

Grated cheese (a decent tasty mature or extra mature cheddar) melted in tomato soup is heaven. Or better still, cubed, not grated. Jarlseberg is also fantastic in tomato soup.

That's what I grew up on - toasted cheese only it was just the cheese melted on one slice 😁

Absolutely!!! I was introduced to that only a month or so ago and loved it to the point where I now make my own :)

Hey, that's a good combo, especially when you have homemade soup and an elevated grilled cheese, i.e. not Kraft slices. :D
I use shredded mild chedder cheese when I make it. Start slowly heating the soup/milk until it is hot and then slow mix in the cheese and stop just before it gets gooey :)

That stuff should be banned!!
Seriously, I have never had an issue with it and I use it for all manner of things, tuna salad, pasta salad, egg salad and the list goes on. I see nothing wrong with it.
